It is a funny odd feeling but although I am so central a figure in the Charity I fail repeatedly to say anything newsworthy about me for, believe it or not, I shirk away from the trumpet blowing . I guess (and hope) it is a British trait of good manners. Well blow it (no pun intended), this month I think it necessary to something about me.
If you have had a look at the Administrator’s Report this past month you will see that all has not been well with my health. I appears that for the last 20 years or so a ‘benign’ brain tumour has gradually been growing which probably has also been a major factor in my hearing problems. Yes, I can hear some of you say, “Well that explains it!” (Smirk, smirk, giggle, smirk). Unfortunately it could not be operated on and that only left radiotherapy treatment.
Well the actual therapy was absolutely fine. A personal mask was made that clamped my head to the machine, and then Zap. No problem. But the next few days brought it home to me that it is not a good idea to boil one’s brains. And before anyone can say it, no it was not an improvement in appearance. Grrr! The idea was to cauterise the thing so it could not grow anymore. It will remain there for evermore but as it will not be growing anymore it will not kill me – just remain the same with the same symptoms effecting me. The treatment has about a 95% success rate but it will be a few more months before they take another scan to see how it is getting on. You never know, perhaps complementary treatments might actually shrink it. That is what I am hoping for but we shall see.
I am not seeing anywhere near the same number of clients now but the other counsellors are, so in the meantime the work of the Mill continues. We even got a delivery of a new sit on mower. I guess it beats my trusty motorized Zimmer frame (powered walk behind mower).
Have a great month
